Thank you for your interest in volunteering at our night shelter. The Way Ministry Reading night shelter for adults experiencing homelessness will open on Friday 10th May at 16 North Street, Reading, RG1 7DA. The shelter will be open to guests from 8pm overnight to 8.45am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings if we can recruit enough volunteers.

We use SignUp, an online rota to manage the night shelter volunteer sessions. A link to sign up to your volunteer sessions will be sent to you upon receipt of a satisfactory reference.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING.

Volunteers must attend Safeguarding Adults level 1 training or hold a current certificate. Safeguarding training to be held at Providence Chapel, 103 Oxford Road, Reading. RG1 7DU

I wish to apply to be a volunteer with the Way Ministry Reading emergency night shelter. I understand that any information given here will be treated in the strictest confidence. I acknowledge that my conduct while working with the Way Ministry Reading will reflect upon the integrity of the charity and agree to abide by the training and guidelines given prior to my involvement. I will not speak to any members of the media or other organisations on any matter relating to the activities of the Way Ministry Reading night shelter, but will refer them to the Way Ministry Reading.

I will have fully read the volunteer handbook and undergone training before the start of the project. I acknowledge that I have been strongly advised never to give money to a guest; personally look after their property; ‘lone work’ with them; or transport them anywhere.

I understand that if I choose to act outside the advice given, that the Way Ministry Reading will not be held responsible for the results my actions and their Public Liability Insurance will not cover me. To my knowledge, there is nothing in my past history that would make me unsuitable to work at the shelter.
