Next Reflex Dance Collective is looking for music and dance artists to perform in their 3rd Annual Music and Dance Festival at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA on February 8th at 7:30pm. This performance will feature area musicians, dancers, and choreography in this one night event. The festival will celebrate musicians doing their thing; choreographers collaborating with musicians doing their thing; choreographers experimenting with live sound doing their thing; and dancers doing their thing.
Submissions could include:
- Choreography that is performed to live music.
- Choreography that is performed to live sound (for example, sound made by the dancers like tap, or choreography to text or voice).
- Musicians playing solo sets.
- Musicians playing with other musicians.
- Performance piece should not be longer than 12 minutes.
- Choreography and music can be any genre.
Artists should be prepared to share a video link of the work they wish to present.
Artists should also be prepared to share their own promotional materials during the night of the performance.
**Performers must be available for tech February 8th starting at 9am. (usually tech time is a somewhat flexible, but please note in the application if you need a specific time bracket for tech that day) **

Next Reflex Dance Collective was founded by Roxann Morgan Rowley and Erika Surma in 2007. An award winning modern dance company based in Northern Virginia, NRDC has been presented throughout the region by multiple venues and festivals including The DC Dance Festival, The Charlotte Dance Festival, The DUMBO Dance Festival, The Cool NY Dance Festival, The Goose Route Dance Festival, The Howard Community Festival, Mason/Rhynes Productions “Late Night Series”, The Carter Barron Amphitheater, The Workhouse Arts Center, The American Dance Institute, Dance Place, The Harman Center for the Arts, The 2010 Metro DC Dance Awards, The National Theater, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, among others. NRDC has received support from the Puffin Foundation, the Arts Council of the Valley, the DC Commission for the Arts and Humanities, the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and the Arts Council of Fairfax County. NRDC’s en Route! A Touring Dance Project was established in 2007 with the purpose of bringing together diverse artists from various communities to broaden the awareness of dance performance in select cities and to provide touring opportunities for independent artists and small companies. In 2009, NRDC was the proud recipient of the Metro DC Dance Awards’ “Founders Award” for innovation in dance and was a finalist in multiple award categories. Next Reflex Dance Collective is in residence at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA helping to provide a space for dance dialogue and growth in the Northern VA.
Our Mission
It is NRDC’s mission to create art collaboratively with artists of all disciplines and to support the creation of experimental dance work. As a unit, we are committed to creating new work which challenges ideas and broadens perceptions, while also encouraging experimentation at the highest level. We are devoted to being a part of our dance community’s growth through the inclusion of various artists in specific performance and outreach programs. Each NRDC collaborator brings a new community of not only audience but also outreach to our collective.
