2024 Swahili Day Vendor Application

Swahili Day is our annual cultural festival celebrating African art, music, dance, food, crafts, and the Swahili language. We invite all of Lexington to join us at this family-friendly event to enjoy cross-cultural activities.

Vendors applying to attend Swahili Day 2024 will be reviewed and approved by Marafiki Center.

Booths with African themes, wares or services relevant to African cultures are preferred.

Date: Saturday, June 1, 2024

Public Event Time: 4 - 9 pm (Vendors must arrive by 3 pm, and can leave by 8 pm.)

Location: Bluegrass Community and Technical College, Newtown Campus: 500 Newtown Pike, Lexington, KY

There is a $50 fee for each accepted vendor.

Marafiki Center aims to showcase the diverse cultures and talents within local African communities. Our social media channels support this aim. Vendors can provide a high-quality image that represents their stall and social media handle. We may share and promote your business for no additional charges.

PHOTO RELEASE

I hereby grant Marafiki Center permission to use my likeness in a photograph or other digital reproduction in any and all of its publications, including website
entries, without payment or any other consideration.
I understand and agree that these materials become the property of Marafiki Center and will not be returned. I hereby authorize Marafiki Center to edit, alter, copy, exhibit, publish or distribute this photo for
purposes of publicizing its programs or for any other lawful purpose. In addition, I waive the right to inspect or approve the finished product, including written
or electronic copy, wherein my likeness appears. Additionally, I waive any right to royalties or other compensation arising or related to the use of the photograph. I hereby hold harmless and release and forever discharge the Marafiki Center from all claims, demands and causes of action which I, my heirs,
representatives, executors, administrators or any other persons acting on my behalf or on behalf of my estate have or may have by reason of this authorization.

CONDITIONS AND GUIDELINES

  1. Mandatory $50 fee must be paid to Marafiki Center within 7 days of receiving your invoice to reserve your position at the event.
  2. The Marafiki Center reserves the right to accept or deny applications based on the goals of the event.
  3. All stalls will be installed as per local authority guidelines. This includes the requirement for temporary stalls to be weighted down to prevent them from wind.
  4. All Stallholder must submit a feedback survey in writing to the Marafiki Center following the Swahili Day event.
  5. Marafiki Center reserves the right to ask the Stallholder to withdraw any item(s) from sale. 
  6. Marafiki Center does not allow religious or political stalls. 
  7. Swahili Day will take place rain or shine. The event will not be cancelled due to inclement weather and no refunds will be given.
  8. Marafiki Center will not provide water or power to any stall site. If you require power, contact Marafiki Center.
  9. Stallholders are to confine their operations within the boundary of the allocated stall area and may not move the stall from the allocated site. 
  10. All goods for sale must be of good quality and not identified as being hazardous or toxic or have potential to cause injury to any persons.
  11. The following items are not to be sold at Swahili Day, either individually or as part of a multi-product show bag, or used as giveaways or prizes:
    • Toy weapons of any description (guns, knives, bow & arrows, batons, projectiles, etc)
    • Loud hooters or horns
    • Silly string or other items of nuisance
  12. The Stallholder understands and agrees that Marafiki Center has the right to remove, without refund, any Stallholder who misrepresents themselves or their product.
  13. The Stallholder will be solely responsible for and bare all risk associated with, the collection of money at Swahili Day and the transfer of money to and from the site.
  14. The Stallholder is responsible for ensuring that all merchandise, packaging and equipment is kept within the Stallholder’s allocated area and that this area is kept clean and tidy at all times throughout the celebration.
  15. Marafiki Center encourages environmentally sustainable practices. The Stallholder must ensure that all waste is removed at the completion of the event and disposed of correctly.
  16. Stallholders may not bring their personal vehicles onto the designated site area at any time during the event other than times designated for loading in and out. Designated onsite parking will be provided. 
  17. Stallholders must abide by the set-up and tear-down rules as stipulated by Marafiki Center. Vendors should arrive no later than 3 pm to set-up stalls and must not leave or take down stalls until 8 pm.
