The European Parliamentary Association is delighted to invite you to a debate entitled “Between progress and backlash: What’s next for LGBTQ+ equality in Europe?”. This event will take place on Tuesday, the 13th of June, starting at 8 pm, at the villa of the European Parliamentary Association (76 allée de la Robertsau, Strasbourg).

The debate will be conducted in English and will be followed by a cocktail reception.

The aim of this conference, which is being held during Pride Month, is to assess the current state of LGBTQ+ rights across European countries.

Questions to be addressed include: Has the EU become a better place for LGBTQ+ individuals compared to last year? What measures are the European institutions, particularly the European Parliament, currently taking to combat discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity within and beyond Europe? How do these issues resonate within the discourse of different European political groups?

We will delve into these questions with three MEPs who are actively involved in these matters:

- Marc Angel: He is an MEP from Luxembourg and holds the position of Vice-President in the European Parliament. He belongs to the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats and serves as one of the Co-chairs of the LGBTI Intergroup of the European Parliament.

- Maria Walsh: Hailing from Ireland, she is an MEP affiliated with the Group of the European People’s Party. Maria Walsh is a Vice-President of the LGBTI Intergroup of the European Parliament.

- Pierre Karleskind: A French MEP and member of the Renew Europe Group, Pierre Karleskind also serves as one of the Vice-Presidents of the LGBTI Intergroup of the European Parliament.

Together, these MEPs will provide insights into the progress made and challenges faced in the realm of LGBTQ+ rights in Europe. Join us as we explore the current landscape and discuss the actions being taken to foster equality and inclusivity.
