Holy Leisure in Hard Places
Trials and hardship have a way of refining us, and strengthening our hope and trust in the Lord. However, when we're in the midst of struggles, we feel alone, and like no one else could possibly understand what we're going through.

The purpose of Holy Leisure in Hard Places is to create a body of stories of people who've gone through difficult circumstances and have found Jesus to be sufficient through it all. We may come out of our trial walking with a limp, but we've also come out more reliant and more in love with the Lord. (This in and of itself is a work of grace, is it not?!)

2 Cor 1:3-4 says, Blessed by the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."

My hope is I can help you tell your story and to share how the Lord was gracious to you even in some really difficult seasons of your life. I want it to reflect your experience, and be a tool you can use to share your story with others. It's also my hope that it will offer encouragement to someone else, at some point in time, when they need the assurance that they are not alone in their suffering.

Please keep in mind that the goal is for this post to be about 2,000 words. I know that sounds like a lot, but it often requires a lot of editing to keep it flowing and engaging for the reader. We want to give details that enhance the story, but don't bog the reader down.  (In other words, please don't be offended if I have to edit some things out.)

Thanks so much for giving me this honor of sharing your story!
Tell me about a recent hardship/trauma/crisis or experience you've been going through. What happened? How did it immediately affect your life? What were the ripple effects or the fall out that happened because of the hardship/trauma/crisis? (This can be a high-level answer and doesn't have to give all the details of what happened. We can get into more specifics later. Give as much or as little detail as is helpful for you.
How did God specifically minister to you during your trial? (e.g. how did you feel the Lord was speaking to you through other people, through his word, music, sermons, others?) There could me a million little ways the Lord moved in your heart and your circumstances, but can you identify 1 or 2 moments that were pivotal to your outlook or circumstances?
How did you specifically seek to enjoy being in God's presence (pursue holy leisure) during this trial? (Sometimes when we're in a trial, it's difficult to be in the Word/study/pray/have fellowship, and it feels more like an act of obedience vs. something we want to do. It's ok to be honest about that in your answer. Other times this time with the Lord is so vital that we need it like we need oxygen. It's ok if you're answer is at any point of this spectrum...I'm looking for honest feedback, but also how you got from whatever point A was for you, to a point where you were really hearing from the Lord and receiving timely encouragement and hope from him.)
Was there anything you did that helped you enjoy being in God's presence during this time that maybe you didn't do before the trial happened?
How would you encourage someone else going through a similar circumstance? What would be your top pieces of advice for this person to enjoy God (holy leisure) even in the midst of trials?
Was their a verse(s) that ministered to you during this time? If so, what was it?
Is there anything else you want to share with me?
THANK YOU for your time and for entrusting me with your story!
I'll be reading through your responses and will schedule a follow-up call if I think your story is a good fit to feature in the future.
