Back Rent Help & Security Deposit Request
Funding requests can include security deposits, first month's rent, or rental arrears (back rent) through Family Promise of Greater Rochester (hereinafter "FPGROC") Prevention and Diversion Program.

Although you may be eligible, our funding is limited.  We receive far more requests for assistance from eligible families than we are able to provide. We receive approximately over 200 requests monthly from families seeking assistance and unfortunately only have the funds to help approximately 10 households per month. Please understand that to request funds DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE ASSISTANCE.  You are encouraged to pursue other organizations while your request is pending. Please call 211 for additional resources.

To be eligible, you must:

(1) Have children 18 years of age or younger in your care;
(2) Be able to prove your ability to maintain the rent going forward; AND
(3)  if seeking assistance with back rent, you must owe less than the amount  FPGROC's policy allows us to assist with (typically one month's worth of back rent); OR
(4) if seeking assistance with a security deposit,  the security deposit amount you are requesting cannot exceed the amount that FPGROC's policy is able to assist with.

AFTER COMPLETING YOUR REQUEST: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

How will I know whether I am  ineligible for our rental assistance program?
The questions on the request form incorporate a series of requirements that need to be met in order to qualify for our rental assistance program. As you respond to each sections you will either:
(1) be brought to  a page indicating you are ineligible which goes onto explain why your request does not qualify for assistance ; or
(2) proceed through the request form without receiving a notification page regarding ineligibility.
The  "Ineligible requests" page provides a list of resources and options which requesters are encouraged to seek out immediately upon learning they are ineligible for our program as other organizations and programs have different criteria from our own.

I completed without coming to a page stating I am ineligible. Now what?
All eligible requests will receive an update, either by phone or email, within 2 weeks from the date of submission. Requestors contacted for an intake will have to provide documentation to support proof of identity, income, and relevant rental information (i.e. lease, ledger, etc.). If rental assistance funds run out for the month, you will receive an email letting you know and you will be encouraged to submit another request the 1st of the the upcoming month.

Should I call to follow-up on my request?
No. Due to high volume of rental assistance requests, we are unable to respond to follow up phone calls inquiring about the status of your request for assistance.  Calling to check on the status delays the intake process and compromises the objectivity of the rental assistance process. Please allow up to 2 weeks from the date of your request submission for us to either send you an email or call you. Be sure to check your email inbox or spam for communication from us. If after two weeks you have not received an email or phone call, you may call the office to check on the status of your request.

Can I request assistance from another program while my request is pending?
YES. In fact, you are encouraged to pursue other organizations while your request is pending. Please call 211 for additional resources. Please note, if, prior to us processing your request for assistance, you are successful securing the  requested funds from another organization/program, we will unable to assist you with your request.

Can Family Promise provide assistance with both a security deposit & first month's rent?
No. A household deemed eligible for assistance can  receive either one or the other, but not both. For example, if you are approved by us to pay first month's rent, you will be responsible for first month's rent and vice versa.
