Anyone who lives in Chicago or uses Skinner Park can sign the petition.

The Skinner Park Advisory Council have been working to expand and improve Skinner Park for over 20+ years.  Our community needs a new fieldhouse with a pool to support the residents.  We also need to not just preserve our existing park facilities but to expand the park.

The Mayor's Office is currently supporting demolishing the basketball courts and part of the greenspace we have in Skinner Park to build a subpar fieldhouse.

We have been waiting for years for the City to finish building the new Joint Public Safety Training Academy (4433 W Chicago Ave) so that the police can move and Skinner Park can expand.  Now that the new academy has been completed,  the Mayor's Office is saying that they want to sell away our only opportunity to expand Skinner Park.  The park district owns the land that the police academy is located on and rightfully should be used to expand the park.

BACKGROUND
Comparison of Community Access of WY Pool vs Park District Pool
Please Sign the Petition (by filling in your name, address, email).  Be sure to hit submit.
We the undersigned oppose the destruction of the Skinner Park basketball courts.  We support building the new fieldhouse with a community pool on the West parking lot of the police academy across Adams St.  from Skinner Park.  We also support expanding Skinner Park into the 1300 Block of Jackson.  Our community needs these amenities to serve us.  We oppose selling any part of the 1300 Block of West Jackson ( bounded by Jackson, Loomis, Adams, and Throop). The City and the Chicago Park District needs to correct past bad policy decisions that have harm our community.

As the economic engine of Chicago, the West Loop needs investment as well.  The West Central TIF will end in 2024 and we have been paying into these funds with minimal reinvestment to serve us.
