This monthly gathering for youth interested in traditional music is a chance for kids to play tunes with others in a casual setting, learn some new tunes, introduce personal favorites to others, and practice the art of playing in a group. All instruments are welcome. Tunes are taught by ear. Age range is roughly 8-14, but the main requirements are a basic ability to play one’s instrument and a desire to be part of a group.
The Youth Jam meets the second Friday of each month from 4:30-5:30, and is led by rotating local instructors, including Ruth Einstein, Joanne Garton, Susan Reid, Katie Trautz, and Yasi Zeichner. There is no charge.
Jams are held at the Center for Arts and Learning in Montpelier unless otherwise indicated. Email notices are sent in advance of each jam with information about the guest instructor of the month. For more information please contact Tracy Loysen at
