TOGETHER IN JESUS: RECONCILIATION:  As we continue with our "Together in Jesus" lesson, we are going to learn about how Jesus used stories to answer questions that the people of his time had. One day someone asked Jesus, "Who are the people I am supposed to love?" Jesus' response was to tell them a story about a group of people including robbers, travelers, a priest, a stranger from Samaria and an innkeeper. Before we read this story, it is important to understand that, in Jesus' day, Samaria was a country that was very close to the country where Jesus lived. The people of Jesus' country looked down on the people from Samaria because they did not keep the Law of God the same way the Jewish people did. Knowing this, let's now turn to page 3 in your booklet and read the cartoon story "How Does Jesus Ask Us to Treat People?"  When you are done, read the story below of the "Parable of the Good Samaritan," taken from the Gospel of Luke. Then answer the questions below.  Make sure to add your Jesus sticker to the top of the page when you are all done.
Who showed love for the man who was robbed? *
1 point
Who treats the man as a neighbor? *
1 point
Fantastic job! It was the Samaritan, someone who supposedly doesn't keep the law as well as the Jews did, who showed his love for the man who was robbed. His loving actions are what counts the most. He treated the man as a neighbor. It was the Samaritan, someone who the people in Jesus' country did not like to think of as a neighbor, that actually treated the victim as a neighbor. Jesus calls us to love all people through our actions. That includes family, friends and classmates. So when we ask the question, "Who am I supposed to love?," Jesus' answer is to love all people! Now take a moment to locate the sticker of Jesus on your sticker sheet and fit it into the shape at the top of the page.
We are finding out a lot about God's love for us and Jesus' love for us. Remember how in Part 1 of our lesson we talked about Reconciliation being more than just confessing our sins. Remember how we talked about it all beginning with love. In our readings today, we see how loving actions by the Good Samaritan, God's loving actions of creating the beautiful earth and creating us, and Jesus' loving actions of dying on the cross for us and being raised from the dead so that we might live with him in joy and peace forever are all loving actions. Love is the foundation for everything!! Now in our next section, we are going to learn about some rules that will help us to live loving lives.
LEARNING ABOUT THE TEN COMMANDMENTS: First, locate your "Ten Commandments" card.  In this lesson, we are going to start learning about the Ten Commandments. The Commandments are God's loving guidelines for living a safe and happy life. By following them, we grow closer to God and to one another. As you learn about each of the Ten Commandments, you will learn how to tell right from wrong and how to make loving choices. Let's look at each of the commandments on the card.  Note, under each commandment there is a description of what the commandment includes.  You will see the commandments aren't as black and white as we once believed them to be. Don't worry, you don't have to know them all now. Keep going over each of them one by one over the next several weeks!  Don't forget to answer the questions below.
Bravo! You are doing great. God loves us and cares about our safety and happiness. He wants us to know how to be fair, loving, kind and holy. The Ten Commandments are God's loving guidelines for us, which can help us achieve that kind of life and grow closer to God. By writing these laws into stone, God wanted to show us that he would always be with us. God allows us the freedom to make our own choices, but to help us make the right choices, he gives us the Ten Commandments.
