Since 2006, the website has provided a quality platform for New Zealand professional performing arts reviews, news, your views and a unique archive of professional performance arts practice.  

We are currently redeveloping Theatreview's website to enable all of you to better access the latest theatre and dance reviews, a relevant place for conversation and comment, and the free, readily searchable archive of professional performing arts practice, views and production details in Aotearoa New Zealand.

How can we meet your needs on the Theatreview website?
We want to provide a meaningful, efficient service. As we undertake a major review of our primary platform  (the THEATREVIEW website) we would really appreciate any further comments you can make about what Theatreview can do to improve your experience,  e.g. How can we do better? What do you find useful or not helpful with the current delivery of reviews and information?  How would you like to see it change?  Please add ANYTHING else you want to say about the site and/or how you use the information from it.

Reviews happen when a production makes a request. Theatreview does not decide to organise a written review of a performance without this request.

The people who do the work which makes Theatreview happen:
- A Theatre Editor and Dance Editor, both arts professionals, commission, edit and publish the reviews, for theatre and dance performance. One of these is also the Managing Editor. Both share their time with other professional commitments
- A Webmaster monitors the website and troubleshoots.

These three people are paid nominally for their work as we secure funding.  Much of their work is pro bono.
Associate Editors volunteer in some regions to keep our services available (while funding is not provided nationwide for theatre reviews).

Between 80 and 120 reviewers across Aotearoa volunteer their time and skills, without payment, other than receiving two complimentary tickets to the production they are reviewing.  Financial payment to reviewers is an aspirational aim but requires a sustained funding source to support it.

A Trust of between three and eight voluntary professionals from various areas of the performing arts sector, look after the governance and overall administration.  All of the Trustees, also, share their time with other professional commitments.

By mid 2022, the archive on the website held nearly 13,000 reviews of more than 7,600 productions with associated production pages, images and comment.

Even in the COVID-stricken 12 months of 2021, the site was accessed by 92,456 users for 212,129 page views from all over Aotearoa New Zealand (64.22%) and internationally (35.78 %).

Theatreview is funded solely by grants and donations.
