If you fail to satisfy Mountaineering School requirements (class and outing participation, preparedness or unsafe practices), you will be asked to withdraw from the School.  Removal from the School will be at the discretion of the Directors. *
Because of the nature of mountaineering, we have no room at classes and outings for anyone else including your dog, significant other, child, etc. If you need to make arrangements for your family, please do so before applying for the School. *
Students are responsible for transportation and lodging costs for outings, including, if invited, the graduation trip.   *
Mountaineering school instructors are volunteers, not professional guides.  The school is organized, directed and carried out by Club members interested in giving their time to build a solid understanding of mountaineering principles and techniques in the next generation of climbers.  Both instructors and students are asked to be respectful of each other’s time, skills, and mountaineering goals. *
Before the school begins, prospective students will be asked to demonstrate that they meet the level of fitness and rope skills needed to be able to be safe on outings. There will be a check-out to assess both on October 9. Please indicate that you will be able to make this, or indicate here if that date will be a problem for you. The committee makes NO guarantee that will be able to accommodate dates other than October 9. *
Mountaineering School is open only to members of the ECP. Please confirm that you are a current member or your application is submitted. *

Please list any backpacking & mountaineering equipment you already own or are sure you can borrow.  This does not have to be a comprehensive list, but we’re interested in things like boots (hiking & mountaineering), crampons, axes, stoves, tents, sleeping bags (with rating) and so on, so we have an idea of what you have and what you will need to get (buy, borrow, rent, etc). The club has a limited selection of equipment available for student use.  Availability is not guaranteed.

Why do you want to take the mountaineering school and what do you hope to get out of it?
Mountaineering School depends on long-term, active ECP members to help carry forward the School and other ECP activities. Are you interested and able to continue to be part of the ECP once Mountaineering School ends?
To what extent does the time commitment of the School pose problems for your participation? Do you have any existing commitments that will make you miss any classes or outings?
How committed are you to completing the school this year?
Following graduation, the directors will organize a trip this year to Mount Washington, NH. (Details will be settled during the class.) This will include a technical winter ascent in extreme weather conditions. You will be required to pay for your transportation and at least one night lodging in a motel. Can you commit to this trip if accepted into the school? *
Provide any clarification to the previous question.
2021 - 2022 Covid Statement *
We are requiring that you obtain a vaccine for admittance to the school.  (If you are not medically eligible, we apologize but ask you to wait for a future year. Please be respectful of others' concerns.)  We will require masks during indoor instruction.   Throughout the school, if you are having any symptoms (such as running nose or temperature), you will be asked to not participate in any outings or classroom sessions or obtain a negative test.   Due to the nature of the outing at the Adirondacks, a negative COVID test may be required the week prior to the event in addition to vaccination.
How will you be submitting your payment?
If you are not accepted into the school, your payment will be refunded.
