About: FL H&NC is here to equip and prepare the Movers & Shakers in the Food is Medicine (FIM) ecosystem across Florida to be ready for program implementation and funding from Healthcare Dollars to support the health and vitality of millions of Floridians.

Note on definitions:

For us, a Food is Medicine (FiM) program is a medical treatment program for eligible patients with diet-related health disease, conditions, risk. Often food insecurity, or challenges with lack of access to nutritious medically tailored foods, plays a role in the disease. Food is Medicine prescriptions are written by healthcare providers or health insurance plans and are referred to Community Based Organizations (CBO) or Retailers for fulfillment of medically tailored groceries, meals, and healthy produce. FiM programs would be incomplete without nutrition education, coaching, menus, cooking classes and community elements, which are all at low cost to no cost to the patient. Outcomes are evaluated to measure each patient’s journey of how FiM changes their lifestyle and reverses their chronic conditions.
