2020 SLI Invitation to Submit a Proposal
Hamline University K-12 Summer Literacy Institute 2020

Stories Matter:  Listen, Believe, and Learn
July 13 - 16, 2020 (Monday - Wednesday 8:30 am - 3:30 pm; Thursday 8:30 am - 12:00 pm)

The Hamline University Summer Literacy Institute (SLI) is an annual four-day institute which draws over 250 K-12 educators to our campus each July. As part of SLI, we invite teachers, educational leaders, students, and researchers to share about approaches to literacy education that promote equity and inclusion in K-12 settings. Interactive programming from keynote speakers and local practitioners at the Institute provide multiple opportunities for collaboration, reflection, and planning between attendees and presenters. Here is a link to our website: https://www.hamline.edu/summer-literacy-institute/.

We have been working over the past several years to integrate equity and social justice into the design and practices of the Institute. We are committed to offering a professional development experience that is created with all of our students and all of their teachers in mind--a space where we can learn from and with each other about inclusive literacy instruction, institutional and systemic forms of oppression, and how to take action in our respective schools, districts, and communities. The theme for the 2020 Institute is Stories Matter: Listen, Believe, and Learn.

Sponsorship: Minnesota Reading Council (MRA) - Tuesday, July 14, 2020
Sponsorship: Twin Cities Area Reading Council (TCARC) - Wednesday, July 15, 2020
