Lead Instructional Student Mentor
Description of duties: Act as a point of contact/mentor for all TAs in the department: field questions or concerns from TAs, liaise with TA Faculty Advisor, observe discussion sections or give feedback on TA activities as requested.  Legacy project: (1) propose and obtain approval for project from TA Faculty Advisor; (2) build project and deploy; (3) assess effectiveness.

Required qualifications: A graduate student with at least two quarters of CSE TA experience, preferably for different courses. Experience as a mentor TA for CSE 599 is a plus, and the more teaching experience the better. Strong interest in education required.  Good academic standing and faculty advisor endorsement, if applicable.  Must be in residence in San Diego during appointment.

Term: Academic year (three quarters)

Number of positions: 1

Expected average workload: 2-5 hours per week

Compensation: $4500 stipend for the year
(does not preclude additional TA or other appointments; paid monthly)

Briefly describe your initial ideas for a legacy project.
CSE 599 TA
Description of duties: Provide logistical support for CSE 599, in consultation with the CSE 599 instructor.  This may include assigning practicum groups, scheduling practicum rooms, setting up course website and/or discussion boards, photocopying required handouts for CSE 599 sessions, facilitating graduate student panel, recording and maintaining attendance, etc.  Give regular feedback to students on CSE 599 homework, as directed by CSE 599 instructor.  

Required qualifications: A graduate student with at least two quarters of CSE TA experience, preferably for different courses.  Experience as a mentor TA for CSE 599 is a plus, and the more teaching experience the better. Strong interest in education required.

Term: One quarter

Number of positions: 1 in Fall, 1 in Winter, potentially 1 in Spring (depending on enrollment)

Expected average workload: 8-10 hours per week

Compensation: 25% TA position (including tuition & fee payment as well as pay)

CSE 599 Mentor
Description of duties: Advise a small group of CSE 599 students while they do their weekly practicum sessions.  Observe their micro-teaching, give feedback, and support them in their TA roles.  

Required qualifications: A graduate student with at least one quarter of CSE TA experience.

Term: One quarter

Number of positions: 8-12 in Fall, 6-9 in Winter, potentially 5-8 in Spring (depending on enrollment)

Expected average workload: 1 hour per week

Compensation: volunteer
