Thank you for you interest in serving Birmingham's LGBTQ+ community! The LGBTQ+ Advisory Board for the city of Birmingham works to develop a healthy, thriving LGBTQ+ community where LGBTQ+ residents live openly and freely across all segments of our society--free of all forms of discrimination and oppression.
The purpose of The Board is to improve the civic climate for LGBTQ+ citizens and their allies through education and advocacy for LGBTQ+ inclusive policies; to assist in the facilitation of City programs; and to generate support for the LGBTQ+ community. Members provide input into both short and long term strategic planning to achieve the vision of the Mayor and LGBTQ+ Liaison.
The Board exemplifies the diversity of the Birmingham LGBTQ+community and consists of White/Non-Hispanic, African-American, Hispanic, Asian, and biracial members. These individuals represent identities from across the LGBTQ spectrum - including representatives from the gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, queer, transgender, gender non-conforming, and ally communities. Representation on the Board encompasses aspects of health, legal, political, advocacy, faith and community.
While we prefer previous community engagement from applicants, all applications will be considered earnestly. Once you've completed this application, please submit a current resume with current and previous work experience, publications/presentations, awards/honors, and community involvement information. Be sure to list boards and committees that you serve on or have served on, including business, non-profit, civic, community, professional, recreational, social and other organizations as well as your dates of service.
