Food Scrap Pick Up Program Sign Up
As members of MHS Original Civic Research and Action (OCRA*), we are launching a pilot zero-carbon, cost-free food scrap curbside pickup for residents this spring. The food scrap curbside pickup will utilize individual bicycles attached to a lightweight trailer with containers for collection of the food scraps. This initiative is designed, implemented, and administered by OCRA students - NOT local government (Village of Larchmont or the Larchmont Mamaroneck Joint Sanitation Commission).
OCRA students understand that transporting food scraps for drop-off at Maxwell Avenue Recycling Center is a major impediment for residents currently considering or participating in food scrap recycling. Our creative, community-based initiative provides the curbside pickup solution once per week for residents living in the Village of Larchmont.
If you are interested in having your food scraps picked up, cost free, please fill out the form below and you will be considered for our route. This program will be available to a subset of residents. It is small in scale and not designed to serve every Larchmont resident. The program is still in its early stages, we hope that the results of this survey will help to gauge participation in the food scrap recycling program, interest and a route for the pickup. Once there is more information about who qualifies, families will be notified with all information and the program will launch in late Spring 2021.
*OCRA is a 4-year program at MHS that helps students become civic entrepreneurs by guiding them as they identify needs in their community and, in turn, develop and implement community-based civic action projects.
