*Please note these camps are designed, planned, and geared to benefit children working on social skills/social communication (i.e. perspective taking during communicative conversational interactions, turn taking in conversation, thinking about what others are thinking, etc.).
Psalm 145:9 ~ The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.
____________
What do these camps look like?
The Biola Social Skills camps involve approximately 30 children with autism (ages 6-10 years old) and 30 typically developing age-matched peers. Speech and language assessments will be given during the week of July 16th, 2024, and camp will take place for 5 days (July 22nd - 26th, 2023 from 9AM - 11:30AM or 1PM-3:30PM.)
These camps are run through our Speech and Language Clinic, and will take place on the Biola campus. Our 30 graduate level Speech and Language Pathology (M-SLP) students plan and carry out the week's activities, and 4 licensed and certified speech-language pathologists will be present for supervision of the graduate clinicians.
What is the purpose of these camps?
This is a clinical practicum for the students, which means the graduate clinicians earn clinical hours toward their required hours for graduation and certification with the American Speech Hearing Association (ASHA) as Speech Language Pathologists.
The graduate students are paired 1:1 with a camper, and through structured fun activities, they work to address individual communication goals. Our graduate students collaborate and communicate with their camper’s parents during the camp and provide written assessment at the beginning and progress reports at camp conclusion.
