Six writers perform—two poets and four prose storytellers.
Each of the readers has 8 to 10 minutes, generally 1200 to 1500 words.
The theme will always be the title of a memorable play or movie.
Writers can focus on the themes of the play or movie, the characters, or simply on the words in the title.
Writers will attend a Zoom run-through of the show to be scheduled during the week before the event.
Storytellers will write a new piece, created expressly for the show.
The offerings may be fiction or true personal stories.
Stories should generally be written in the first person.
True stories about a personal experience with the play or movie are encouraged.
Fictional backstories of characters in the play or movie, written in the voice of the character, are encouraged.
But feel free to think outside the box. The words in the title may be inspiration enough.
A rough draft must be submitted no later than two weeks before the show so that the producers, Carl Weintraub, Laurie O'Brien, and Rashim Cannad, will have time to work with you on your story.
Poets will write one or two new poems expressly for the show.
Additional poems from their body of work, pertaining to the theme, may be added to round out their time.
Poets will submit their poems for consultation with poet/producer, Adele Slaughter.
Feel free to submit for more than one theme.
We have never had one person tell stories in two shows in one year.
But if you submit for two, it gives us options and you a better chance to participate.
If, after all this, you still want to submit, begin here...
