The Nathan Harvey Legacy Scholarship, sponsored and administered by the Australian Federation of Modern Language Teachers Associations (AFMLTA), will be offered biennially to support involvement in Languages Education professional learning.
In 2024, applications will be invited for the inaugural scholarship amount of $2000.
Applications
Applications will need to be submitted via this online form by 30 June 2024.
The successful applicant will be announced by 30 September 2024.
Applications will need to include:
Information about the proposed Languages Education Professional Learning the applicant would like to use the Scholarship funding for
The intended benefit and impact of participation in the professional learning on the recipient, students, teacher colleagues and their school community
A budget estimating the cost of the Professional Learning event/s and the proposed use of the Scholarship funds
Endorsement by a referee with relevant knowledge of the applicant.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must:
be a current member of their state or territory Language Teachers’ Association
be engaged in the field of Languages Education
be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
Evaluation
A panel will evaluate all applications in relation to the intended benefit and impact of participation in the Languages Education professional learning on the recipient, students, teacher colleagues and school communities.
Use of scholarship funds
Scholarship funds must only be used for the direct costs for the awardee participating in the professional learning. This may include registration fee/s for conferences/courses, travel to and from the event/s, accommodation if required.
Funds cannot be used for the purchase of equipment, such as computer equipment, cameras, materials or other resources.
Funds must be used to participate in a Professional Learning program within 24 months of the Scholarship being awarded.
Successful scholarship recipients will be required to provide a photo and brief overview of the Professional Learning they participated in for inclusion in the AFMLTA’s e-newsletter, News in Brief. They are also encouraged to share their learning with colleagues as appropriate.
This scholarship is supported through funding from the AFMLTA and donations received to the Scholarship fund.
