Goal: Our organisation is committed to protecting and avoiding damage to natural habitats and species, including through respecting protected areas.
Targets:
-
Identify and assess the ways in which your sport could have negative impacts on natural habitats and species.
This can be carried out through consultation with relevant environmental authorities, local experts and NGOs to determine issues, risks and opportunities for areas with important or sensitive natural habitats and species.
[Note: Specific tools, guidance and a hot line will be available in order for you to be able to identify and assess potential impacts from your operations, events and venues].
-
Avoid building permanent or temporary infrastructure in protected areas and other important areas for nature conservation where they could cause a negative impact.
[Note: Specific tools, guidance and a hot line will be available in order for you to be able to identify and assess nature conservation areas and potential impacts. Some guidance already exists and should be referred to, including applying the IUCN guidelines

- Ensure appropriate assessment of activities that could impact nature, before they take place, and put in place effective measures to ensure overall positive results for nature.
[Note: Specific tools, guidance and a hot line will be available in order for you to be able to identify and assess potential impacts. Some guidance already exists, such as the IUCN guidelines on Mitigating biodiversity impacts of sports events"

- Disseminate, if relevant, appropriate assessment / actions to your contractors, workforce, spectators and teams.
Especially regarding sensitive issues such as invasive species reduction.
