The ALTA Mentoring Program
ALTA, the Australasian Association for Language Technology (de facto, the main Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Computational Linguistics (CL) association in Australia and New Zealand) is willing to commence a mentoring program for its members in 2021.
What is Mentoring?
Mentoring is generally considered to be a voluntary relationship that gives people the opportunity to share their skills, knowledge and experiences, both personal and professional.
Three Key Benefits for Mentors
1. Improve interpersonal skills in counselling, listening, modelling and leading.
2. Access to new perspectives, information and knowledge.
3. Enhance professional relationships and networks.
Three Key Benefits for Mentees
1. Receive valuable feedback from an experienced and subject-matter expert.
2. Have opportunities to develop networks with experienced and positive role models.
3. Have a supportive environment in which successes and failures can be evaluated in a non-confrontational manner and new ideas can be tested.
