Hello Bobcats!

Greetings from the Christa McAuliffe Middle School!  It may be hard to fathom right now, but in a few short months you will be walking the hallways here at our school.  With that said, students entering the 6th grade have the opportunity to choose between two musical courses or a Career Explorations class.  These are all full year classes at a length of 67 minutes and alternate each day with Physical Education.  The teachers have provided videos for you to watch while completing this form in order to get a better understanding of what is covered in all three classes.

The first musical option is Sixth Grade Band.  Here students will have the opportunity to learn a new instrument and become lifelong musicians.  Lessons will be available after and during school to reinforce proper technique and provide more individualized instruction. There are two concerts per year as part of the curriculum.  You may purchase or rent from any store of your choice but Garden State Music is one option we recommend.  The paperwork from Garden State Music can be found in the band section of this form.  Instruments offered next year include flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, and percussion.  Mrs. Weaver, our band instructor, has provided an example of each instrument offered in her band video.  Following our review of your instrument choices, you will receive a letter stating which instrument was selected for each student.  Please do not contact a vendor to secure an instrument until you have received that letter.

The second musical option is Sixth Grade Chorus.  Students will have the opportunity to learn how to use and to strengthen their voice to maximize their singing potential as a full chorus.  There are two concerts each year highlighting the talents of our students as well as performances at orientations and other school sponsored events.

The Sixth Grade Career Explorations Course is an opportunity provided for students to further their academic development and explore the vast career opportunities available in 21 Century workplace.  

Within this Google Form, you will be asked to choose one option, either Chorus, Band or Career Explorations for the upcoming school year.  Due to the nature of the schedule, changes will not be made over the summer or during the next school year once you have chosen a particular course of study.  Please note that choosing Band does require that you rent an instrument and this cost is incurred by you, the parent.  The deadline for the submission of this form is Tuesday, April 14, 2020.
