NAIGC Nomination Committee
This survey will ask you about various proposals for electing candidates to the NAIGC board. Each year every club receives one ballot in the election for next year’s board. The Governance Board is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and advancement of the organization's mission, including financial management, program offerings, and organization structure.  The Board also appoints and oversees the NAIGC’s Executive Director who is tasked with hiring and filling operational volunteer positions responsible for running nationals, sanctioning events, fundraising, etc. Governance Board Members require a different skill set than operational volunteers, and the goal of this survey is to help us find a board election solution that informs our membership of the best way to select their governing board.

Proposal 1: Nomination Committee Selects Candidates
The Nomination Committee is a temporary committee appointed by the Board composed of a variety of stakeholders within the NAIGC community, such as NAIGC student members, coaches, judges, influencers, and past or present Board Members. Board Members may not compose a majority of the committee and cannot serve if up for re-election by the membership. The Nomination Committee reviews Board Member applications several months before the election, performs interviews, and conducts meetings to discuss candidates and how their qualifications align with the Board’s goals and desired skill sets. From this list of candidates, the committee will approve a list of Board candidates no more than three times the number of available positions and no less than two times the number of available positions. The approved candidates will appear on the election ballot.

Rationale: The intended result is to produce a more streamlined ballot of individuals who the Nomination Committee verifies has the necessary qualifications to best serve the NAIGC in the upcoming term. If there are a large number of applicants, the Nomination Committee will only approve a maximum of three times the number of open positions to appear on the ballot, removing the names of those applicants that are not best aligned with the current needs of the organization. If there are less than two times the number of open positions, the Development Committee will seek out more candidates to run for the Board to ensure adequate choice among candidates.

Proposal 2: Nomination Committee Endorses Candidates
The NAIGC Board appoints a Nomination Committee as described in Proposal 1, but candidates are not removed from the ballot. Instead, the Committee votes to endorse candidates who best meet the needs of the organization and makes recommendations to the membership. This may come in the form of an endorsement list, or a list of verified skill sets for each candidate. The information compiled by the Nomination Committee would be presented to membership alongside the full ballot.

Rationale: The intended result is to provide easy to interpret recommendations to the membership based on candidate interviews and detailed review of applications and how the candidate’s fit with the current needs of the organization.

Proposal 3: No Nomination Committee
Revert to nomination language in previous NAIGC Director Election Policy (this policy was how elections ran in all years prior). This proposal allows anyone to nominate themselves or be nominated for the Board election and appear on the ballot. The Development Committee is responsible for compiling and presenting information on Board candidates to the voting clubs, as well as conducting interviews if they desire.

Rationale: Not implementing a Nomination Committee would enable voting members to view all applicants on the ballot, and all candidates would be presented to membership unfiltered via endorsements from a Nomination Committee.

For all options, voters will be presented with as much information as possible about each candidate. This effort ensures that ample qualifying information about new candidates and incumbents is provided to the voting clubs. A report on each candidate including their application information, interview responses, and NAIGC voting record and experience would be available to voting clubs, if applicable.
