Join us for a Stream Biological Training at Jenny Jump Brook!

Stream Biological Training, April 21st 10am-1pm, Jenny Jump Brook (40.865059, -74.982009)

Join NJ Watershed Ambassador Liv to learn about riparian ecology, water quality, and the tiny creatures that live in our streams!

We will learn about the lives of the tiny “bug” creatures that are often overlooked in streams and rivers: aquatic benthic macroinvertebrates. This educational outdoor training gives an overview of stream ecology, macroinvertebrate identification, and the importance of maintaining healthy waterways. After the presentation, participants will have a hands-on opportunity to get into the stream and to collect and identify the macroinvertebrates found in Jenny Jump Brook. We will take on the role of community stream scientists using our macroinvertebrate findings to determine the health of the stream.

This training is open to all ages and experience levels, all are welcome to attend! Attendees under the age of 14 will require parent/guardian supervision. Please fill out the rest of this registration form to confirm your attendance.

Participants should bring a camping chair or picnic blanket to sit on for the presentation half the program. They should bring waterproof rain boots or footwear they do not mind getting wet or dirty for when we get into the stream. A dry change of clothes for afterward is also recommended.

We hope you will join us for a fun morning splashing in the stream and learning about the creatures that live there! If you have any questions, please reach out to Liv at wma1.njwap@gmail.com
