The City of Racine and Racine Fire Department are excited to announce the Firefighter/EMS Internship! The purpose of the program is to allow high-school students the on-the-job experience of being a Firefighter/EMT.
1. Interns will report to their assigned fire station at their assigned time
2. Interns may climb ground ladders and aerial ladders under the supervision of a department member
3. Interns may wear Self Contained Breathing Apparatus(SCBA’S) as part of a training session under the direction of department members
4. Interns will be expected to participate in all Fire Department trainings/activities while “on duty." Trainings/activities may include but are not limited to: hose rolling, cleaning apparatus and stations, emergency scene clean-up, fire prevention visits, public education events and general administrative duties
5. Interns will respond with emergency crews while “on duty” to all emergency calls (ride-along). Interns will watch and observe during this time
6. Interns may not enter or preform any duties, which are within the designated “hot zone” of any emergency scene. In the event of an incident with a hot zone, the intern will stay with the driver of the apparatus they responded in until directed otherwise
7. Interns must obey and follow direction of all firefighters and officers
8. Interns will wear proper attire. Proper attire will be dark blue work pants, black closed-toe boots or shoes, and department issued intern shirt. Uniform must be clean and presentable.
9. Interns may not be substituted for current firefighters/EMTs
10. Interns shall understand that their role in this program is as an educational experience and they may be present at situations that require a high degree of confidentiality/privacy related to incident or medical information. Interns are not allowed to openly share such information with anyone outside the fire department for any reason.
Failure to maintain proper confidentiality/privacy will be means
for dismissal from the program.
