#CelebrateFirst-Gen--First-Gen Digital Storytelling Workshop - Wed., Nov. 18 @ 3pm
Are you a first-gen student? Are you interested in storytelling, video production and/or digital social media? and doing this all for FREE? This opportunity requires little to NO experience in video production, just your time and stories. Spend November 18th attending a 2-hour, completely virtual workshop with other SLCC First-Gen students and craft YOUR story with support and technical assistance from compassionate, experienced facilitators that want to help YOU reflect, write, record, produce and celebrate your first-generation college student experiences through a digital story. No need for any special equipment, digital stories can all be created on any laptop or tablet. The SLCC Publication Center is also a resource and lab for students to do this work and offers a very robust online website with amazing tutorials for digital story-telling platforms.

This project will help you explore the use of storytelling and digital social media to give voice to the rarely heard narratives of First-Generation college students. In these workshops, current SLCC first-gen students will craft first person stories and then weave images, video, sound, and silence to craft elegant multimedia pieces about pride, growth, resilience, anger, tenacity, doubt, shame, and discovery as they navigate the invisible cultural and social norms of higher education. Yet, know that your story need not only be about college, higher education or even only about your first-gen identity, and you know why? Because it's YOUR story to tell-- so it can be about anything YOU want it to be about.
