Selection trials for the 2022 NSW Schools Debating Team will take place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 March. Trials will be held at Sydney Girls High School in Moore Park, with an online option for students who may be isolating or otherwise unable to attend in person.

Any school student in Years 10-12 is welcome to trial. We are looking for both existing debating talent and future debating potential, so don't assume that you won't have a chance! Students in year 9 who are especially keen are also encouraged to trial.

Each student speaks in a debate in front of an experienced selection panel. Debates are followed by a brief general knowledge quiz. In all, your trial will take about 2.5-3 hours on either Saturday or Sunday, depending on your preference. Successful triallists will complete two callback debates on either Monday 14 or Wednesday 16 March. From these debates, a NSW Squad will be selected, which will undergo training before a final NSW team is chosen for the National Schools Debating Championships.

Though NSWDU is a non-profit organisation, and all our trainers are volunteers, we do charge a fee for trialling to raise funds towards the NSW team's attendance of the National Schools Debating Championships. Trials registration costs $50 per student. We can offer a small number of means-tested subsidies for the trials. For more information on these, please contact us at nswdebatingunion@gmail.com. Registration for trials will close at 5 PM on Wednesday 9 March.

Please note: due to the large volume of registrations, we will not immediately email you to confirm your enrolment. If you have successfully submitted this registration form, you are automatically enrolled. We will email all students with the details of their trial on the evening of Wednesday 9 March - if you do not receive an email on that date, THEN check with us to confirm.
