Demand Stanford honor subcontracted janitorial workers’ contracts at the Redwood City campus

Stanford's Redwood City (RWC) campus abruptly decided to switch subcontractors without going through the proper process—in violation of the union’s master contract. This means the jobs of about 20 janitorial workers are at risk—UG2 has told these workers that this Friday is their last day.

Medallion, the new subcontracting agency, has offered to “rehire” all current custodial employees at the RWC campus as new employees, ignoring the years they’ve spent working at Stanford’s RWC and main campuses. This is a breach of the contract both UG2 and Medallion have with the union representing subcontracted custodial workers at RWC. Medallion is in clear violation of the union contract, which mandates that all current employees be treated as such throughout changes of contractors. The process of “rehiring” subjects RWC custodial workers to unfair employment practices and disregards the seniority of employees who have been working at Stanford for years.

In effect, the subcontracting change has placed their jobs and benefits at risk. Medallion already has personnel ready to replace some of the workers, beginning on Friday. Medallion has backed workers into a corner by requiring them to submit to employment practices in violation of their union contract or else lose their jobs at Stanford.

We cannot allow the university and its subcontractors to get away with these anti-union and anti-worker employment practices. Sign this petition to support Stanford's janitorial workers on the Redwood City campus and demand Stanford honor its contract.

Tell Stanford—do not fire any workers and do not require them to submit to the "rehiring" process.

Tell Stanford—do not go through with the switch to Medallion, a subcontracting agency that has shown that they are willing to violate and disregard the worker protections clearly outlined in their contract.

Tell the workers—we stand with you.
