Mr. Lewis's 7th Grade Science Disclosure
Class Expectations:
1) Be on time and prepared. Each student will be expected to be in his or her seat and working on the warm up when the bell rings. Any student not in their desk when the bell rings will be marked tardy.

2) Listen and Follow directions the first time. Students should be respectfully listening to whoever is giving instruction/information. This includes the teacher, announcements, and other student presentation.

3) Respect yourself, others and lab equipment. No put-downs are allowed in this class. Students should respect the property of other students, the teacher, and school property. This includes language used in class and attitudes towards the teacher or other students.

4) Follow all safety rules. If a student fails to follow correct safety procedures in the lab, the students will be immediately removed from the lab area (no warnings).

Attendance, Tardies and Citizenship:
The attendance and tardy policy of Sand Ridge Jr. High will be followed in my class. Refer to these policies on the school’s website.

Cell Phones, Air Pods, and Other Electronic Devices:
The use of cellphones, Air Pods, headphones or any other electronic devices is prohibited in my classroom unless otherwise stated for educational purposes. Please refer to the school website for policy.

Required Materials:
1) Chromebook, provided by Sand Ridge Jr. High, will be REQUIRED every day. Our modified curriculum due to COVID restrictions will be all, or mostly all online.
2) Pen or Pencil.
3) Notebook.

Assignments:
Generally, all assignments will be done online in class. Assignments will be graded within a week of being turned in and recorded in the grade book. If not turned in on time, the grade for the assignment will result in a zero and will be marked as MISSING until turned in. Once turned in, it will be graded on its quality and correctness.

Makeup work:
Students are allowed the number of days they were absent to make up the assignment before entering a zero in the grade book. However, if students need more time due to work from other classes, arrangements can be made on case-by-case basis.

Late Work:
Late work will be accepted up until two days before the end of the midterm or quarter. If not turned in by then, it will remain a zero in the grade book. There will be no penalties for turning work in late. Late work must be turned in on your own time, not in the middle of class.

Cheating:
Any student(s) caught or showing intent of cheating, enabling cheating or guilty of plagiarism will result in a zero for the assignment and will receive an automatic U for citizenship. The assignment CANNOT be made up. Parent or guardian will be notified, and the student(s) may also be subject to possible school action.

Tests and Quizzes:
Tests and quizzes will be given periodically, through Canvas, in class. Tests/quizzes can be challenging for some students, so I will allow students to do test/quiz corrections. Students will be able to look over their test, then, on a separate Word or Google Doc will give the correct answers to each of the questions they missed, and a short explanation of why it is the correct answer for each question re-answered. These will be graded on accuracy/correctness and effort of explanation. These corrections must be turned in within a week of being given.

Extra Credit:
There will be extra credit opportunities throughout the semester, periodically, that will be given at my discretion.

End of the Year Final:
At the end of the year, a comprehensive final will be given to determine proficiency over all of the material covered this year. This will be included as part of 4th quarter grade. For parents and students who wish, the RISE assessment at the end of the year can be used to fulfill this testing requirement instead of the final. A child’s score of a 3 or 4 OR if they get a better score than they did last year, they will not have to take my final, as I can use their RISE score in the grade book. If you would like your child to utilize this accommodation, please check the opt in box on the signature page. By not opting in, this does not remove your child from sage testing, to do that, you must contact the school. Not opting in, means regardless of the score your child gets on RISE, they will need to take my final test and that score will be entered into the grade book.

Grades:
Grades will be updated online, but you may contact me via email, and before or after school with any questions about your grade.
