On September 21, 2004, a classroom teacher Mika Vanhanen, under Environment Online, launched a tree planting initiative, starting with 50 schools in 30 countries. It soon grew a movement reaching over 10,000 schools in 157 countries. As this annual tree planting for peace by schools approaches its 20th anniversary, we reflect on our growth and look forward to fulfilling a dream: to have schools in every country planting trees for peace.
