Classroom Procedures

1.  NO TOLERANCE CHEATING POLICY.  If caught cheating, the student will immediately receive a zero on any assignment or assessment.

2.  Late Work.  Students have until 8:15 AM on the due date to turn in an assignment on Edmodo. Technology is awesome when it works; therefore, remember to either email me (jfoucault72@gmail.com) or turn in a hard copy by 8:15 AM if you are having technical issues. Daily Grades/Homework turned in a day late will automatically receive 50%.  Projects, Labs, and quizzes turned in a day late will automatically drop one letter grade. Two days late will automatically drop to half the possible points. No late work will be accepted after 2 days. No Name = 0% until you turn in the assignment with your name at which your grade becomes a 50%.

3.  Make-up Work.  All missed work and tests are the responsibility of the student when they are absent from school. A student who is absent on the class day before a regularly scheduled test will be responsible for completing the assignment as well as requesting a stamp for all stamped work on the regularly scheduled day and time. Should you miss a test, you will be expected to take it during class on the day you return. In this case, students will receive a different test. This does not include major projects, post lab assignments, etc., where the deadline has been posted in advance. The teacher has the discretion to grant a longer period of time to make up work if there are extenuating circumstances. See Make-UP Work in the DCHS Student Planner.

4.  Entering the Classroom.  Upon entering the classroom, students will sign-in (no sign-in=absent), go directly to your assigned seat, and QUIETLY begin the bell work ("Catalyst"). Bell work is timed and will be done daily for a stamp when completed. At the end of the week students should turn in the entire week for a daily grade. If a student should be absent he/she is responsible for making up the catalyst. If a student is absent three or more days he/she will be excused from the catalyst for that week.

5.  Stamped Work.  Stamped Work will be turned in before each test for a quiz grade. Students will be timed getting their stamped work in; therefore, it is imperative to KEEP YOUR BINDER ORGANIZED!! If stamped work is turned in after the allotted time Late Work procedures apply.

6. Notes. Students are responsible for taking their own notes using assorted colored pens in column format. I do my very best to present the content in a clear, understandable manner, where we will build on previous knowledge. We will utilize a variety of educational resources to enhance student learning.

7.  Lab. A lab binder will be kept to include all lab assignments to be graded at the end of the semester. A written pre-lab will be due before the lab; typed post-labs will be due after the lab. Late Work rules apply. Safety is a primary concern and enforced. Not following the safety rules may result in loss of lab privileges and a reduced lab grade. A safety contract, test, and section in each lab will help to remind of this important aspect of lab!

8. Test Procedures. Tests are meant to drive future instruction. They will be composed of a variety of multiple choice, short answer, essay, and calculations. The tests will always have material from previous units. Cell phones, smart watches, and other technology will be turned in to the designated container on my desk.  Students are allowed to use their own periodic table, designated approved index cards, and an approved scientific calculator.  At no time will students be allowed to utilize their cell phone for calculating purposes. When finished with the test, you should begin working on the posted assignment.

9.  Class Dismissal.  The bell works as a signal for teachers to wrap up their lessons.  Therefore, when the bell rings, I will finish my sentence and dismiss you.  Do not stand or pack up until I dismiss you.  Just as you respect my time, I respect your time and will give you plenty of time to make it to your next class.

10. Tutoring. Individual tutoring each morning from 7:50 AM - 8:15 AM. Although, mornings of test days will be group review sessions. Tutoring passes can be accessed on the online classroom -EDMODO. You are responsible for signing in for tutoring for documentation.

11. Pay Attention. Weekly calendar is always posted in the classroom. Daily assignments are posted on REMIND and EDMODO as well as in the classroom. It is your responsibility to keep up with what is going on in the classroom.

11. Extra Credit. My classroom assignments are designed so that all types of learners can succeed. I do not give individualized extra credit although I do give incentives for all of my students to increase their grade each nine weeks throughout the semester. This includes free lab grade for not using the restroom during class, students have one opportunity to make test corrections to one unit test and receive 1/2 of their points back, and an opportunity called Jag Community Service (JCS). JCS incentives change each nine weeks based on school and community need. As a result, no extra credit is guaranteed.

12.  Technology.  Some assignments will be online assignments; therefore students should make accommodations to meet assignment deadlines. Students will have access to lab computers, library computers, and public library computers. IPad's and netbooks are used during classroom instruction.

13. Communication/Media Groups.  I use EDMODO and REMIND to stay in contact with parents and students.  Students are required to create an EDMODO account so that they may turn in electronic assignments. ALWAYS check your EDMODO! I will post additional resources, videos, and practice to supplement what we learn in class. Parents will also receive a Chemistry Weekly Update of all classroom objectives, activities, and deadlines via email.
