Virtual Altar Project Application for Participation 2021
Join us in a virtual exhibition to celebrate and honor those who have passed.

As a virtual community project, you can participate regardless of geographic location. In November, images and videos of personal altars will be shared in an online event and displayed via video projection at outdoor spaces in Madison, WI and Oaxaca, Mexico. For your altar, you can draw from specific traditions or create something completely expressive. Then, snap a picture or cut a short video of your altar and send it to the Community Altar Project for inclusion in the video exhibition.

The Virtual Altar project is designed to help us build bridges between the individual and the community, life and death, sorrow and celebration. This participatory draws on the thoughtful process of creating a public altar of remembrance of people who have passed. The project is inspired by the altar making traditions in Mexico for Day of the Dead but community and personal altars of remembrance are in many traditions, all over the world. All are welcome.
