Mentally Healthy Schools and Classrooms

Mentally Healthy classrooms and schools means that your child has a sense of belonging, value and connectedness. There are many ways that schools support this work including teaching important social/emotional skills, connecting with each unique student and ensuring our physical environment is set up and managed in ways that reflect each of our learners.

Please share things that you are aware of/ hope for that would promote mentally healthy schools? (e.g., clubs, connection with their teacher(s), etc.). Also include ways that we can support and provide relevent information to you as a parent/caregiver in the work of creating and maintaining mentally healthy classrooms and schools.

Additional Supports for Mental Health and Wellbeing

Sometimes our students need a little bit of extra support around their mental health  and wellbeing.

Please share things that you are aware/hope for that would benefit your child when they need a little bit of extra support at school around their mental health and wellbeing (e.g., social skill groups, child and youth counsellors, short-term counselling, etc.). Also include ways that we can support and provide relevent information to you as a parent/caregiver

Significant Mental Health Needs in Students

Sometimes our children and youth require a more significant level of mental health support and school boards need to facilitate connections with our community partners to best support them and their families.  There are a variety of short-term interventions available at the school board level which can support the student while facilitating these important community connections.

Please share things that you are aware of /hope for that could support your child at this more significant level of mental health need?   Also include ways that we can support and provide relevent information to you as a parent/caregiver.

Addiction/Substance mis-use prevention

Addiction prevention is a significant component in student mental health and wellbeing. Ensuring our students are equipped with positive coping and decision making tools is one way in which we support this important work. There is also a place for substance information, education and awareness in our collective efforts to support positive skilil building, reduce problematic use and decrease stigma.

Please share things that you are aware of /hope for that could support your child in relation to awareness and education in the area of substance mis-use/addiction.   Also include ways that we can support and provide relevent information to you as a parent/caregiver.
