Thank you for your interest in joining the Octavia Project!
The Octavia Project Summer Institute is a free summer enrichment program inviting young women and trans, nonbinary, and/or gender non-conforming youth ages 14-18 to use science fiction to build connections between STEM and the arts in daily workshops. Whether you want to write a book of fan fic or are an avid gamer, the Octavia Project welcomes you!
Our 5 week program runs from July 15 – August 15, 2024. We meet four days a week—Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays—from 12:00pm-4:00pm. Our 2024 Summer Institute will run in-person at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.
Participants will need to provide an ID (for example: school ID, government-issued ID, birth certificate, etc.) to participate.

If accepted, we will also share a permission form that requires a parent/guardian signature.

An Octavia Project participant will finish the program with:
- Strengthened skills in digital-media, art, and writing, as well as a greater confidence in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
- A community of creative peers sharing thoughts and ideas.
- Access to a network of professional authors, architects, city planners, artists & more, as well as fellowships and other leadership opportunities.
- A piece of work published in the Octavia Project zine.
Octavia Project Summer Institute participants are:
- Young women and trans, nonbinary, and/or gender non-conforming youth from New York City who are 14 to 18 years old.
- Able to travel to Brooklyn on a daily basis.
- Available to attend workshops four days a week, from 12-4pm, July 15th-August 15th, 2024.
- Into science fiction, fantasy, fan-fiction, art, writing, science, tech, gaming—or interested in learning more about these topics!
