New Ideas for the New Year!
We tried a different slant on the children’s Praise School program when it began last fall: One week would be a Faith thru Stories in small classroom settings, and the next week would be a Faith thru The Arts “tie-in” session in the larger “art room.”
Weren’t we surprised when our two ideas morphed into one Faith thru Stories and The Arts each session, and every age child and adult took part in everything together! The older kids learned right next to the younger kids, with a parent or grandparent or church member joining right along in the mix.
We want to continue that very open, caring, and spirited model! The only thing that will change is the number of times we meet. We have not yet found enough leaders who will commit to weekly planning, set-up, teaching, take-down, etc. So, we’ll make an adjustment in dates and move along. Our winter/spring lessons will focus on the life of Jesus...as a baby, as a teacher, his disciples, passion week, after His resurrection.
- We will NOT meet on the first Sunday of any month. That’s communion Sunday, and often is a longer worship service. This will be one of our “refuel” Sundays for regular leaders.
- We WILL meet for Story and Arts on two consecutive Sundays a month, presenting scripture lessons in many ways just eight days apart. Students who are only in town every other Sunday will then be sure to get the lesson on one Sunday or the other.
- There MIGHT be a PLUS Sunday with an activity that compliments the month’s lesson if/when creative and clever people come forward to teach their particular skills.
We’ve learned that many families travel a lot on weekends and kids are here or there...not always in town. We feel this plan will allow for away time as well as for engaging learning experiences at Praise School.
