An accent is a positive part of your heritage and your unique expression. But if your native accent is stronger than you would like, or if other aspects of English are getting in the way of clear, confident communicating, I can help you.
Please read through this document as the agreement is at the bottom. Please "sign" and return it to me. I look forward to working with you!
EXPECTATIONS
WHAT KIND OF ENGLISH LEARNERS DO I WORK WITH?
I work with adults. My students have learned enough English to get by, but they want to improve to either fit in or stand out. They range from students to professionals. Personally, I feel I do better with this age range versus working with children as adults tend to have more of a desire to learn.
WHAT GOT ME INTERESTED IN TEACHING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE?
I love the sound of a foreign language, and although I do not speak any other languages, I know the struggle of trying! It's hugely rewarding for me when a learner has that "ah-ha!" moment and eventually "graduates" because they now have the confidence to go solo.
WILL I CHANGE YOUR ACCENT?
No. Your accent is beautiful to me, and it is unique to you. If you want to speak sharper English, it will take much practice time on your part, and I will help you form the sounds that challenge you the most.
DO I WORK WITH CLIENTS LIVING IN OTHER COUNTRIES?
Yes. The Internet offers different video platforms and we can decide what works best for you when we talk the first time. In the meantime, Calendly is connected to Teams.
HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT TO TEACH?
I am an intuitive teacher who will guide you in any areas needing work, and absolutely we will work on whatever is most important to you!
HOW OFTEN WILL WE NEED TO MEET?
Again, this up up to you. My goal is for you to improve to the level you are happiest with. It depends on your schedule, finances, and goals/determination. I’m here to support you making good progress with your English goals for as long as it makes sense to you to work with me.
WHAT IS A TYPICAL FORMAT?
The first four hours are strictly focused on pronunciation and learning the mechanics of vocalizing sounds through poetry reading.
After that, it depends on the individual, but a typical session could include:
- Reviewing pronunciation and other speech focal points from our last session.
- Giving you a chance to ask any questions or mention any English fluency concerns that may have arisen since our last session.
- Reading children's stories for dialogue and voice inflection.
- Singing...yes...singing...(and singer I am not!)
- Asking you to read a passage relevant to your career or that’s of interest to you, while I correct mispronunciations and mistakes and help with intonation and reading comprehension.
- Asking you to tell me about various subjects, like your work, and having some natural back and forth conversation, while I bring to your attention and help you correct weaker areas.
- Brief role plays of situations that you may face in your specific career or daily life, if you wish, such as job interviews, conversations with bosses or employees, talks you need to give to an audience, etc., to help you increase your fluent expression and confidence in those situations.
- Reviewing some of the main points we worked on during the session.
- Setting focus points and goals for exercises and practices for the days until our next session.
