Psi-k Working Group Nomination
Psi-k relies heavily on its Working Groups to represent the views of its community and to organise activities to deliver its mission. At the Psi-k 2022 Conference in Lausanne we began a community-wide review of our Working Groups. The recommendations arising from this review have been considered by the Working Groups, the Scientific Advisory Committee and the Board of Trustees and were announced at the online community meeting on 9th December. The new Working Groups can be found at https://psi-k.net/groups/.

While many Working Groups continue with minor revisions, more significant changes include:
  • the working groups on reduced-scaling methods and bridging length- & time-scales have been merged into a new group on "Multiscale and reduced scaling methods” (B1);
  • the working group on functional materials has been split into two groups: "Materials and devices for energy” (C2) and “Materials for information and communication” (C5);
  • the coverage of machine learning and AI has been reorganised, with an additional working group "Artificial intelligence methods for materials genomics” (B5).
In addition, a new theme focussing on wider engagement has been introduced, covering social responsibility, early career researchers, industry engagement, training & education and policy engagement.

We are now seeking new members and leaders for all of our Working Groups, to guide and steer Psi-k activities within their area. In partnership with the overseeing trustees for the relevant theme, their role is to pro-actively coordinate the organisation of workshops, schools, tutorials or other events, evaluate corresponding proposals, and generally help to forge the community. In doing so we seek to be inclusive and promote diversity including gender, career stages and geography. In particular, for each Working Group we seek to identify one early career researcher (someone who holds a PhD but not a permanent position) and one member from outside Europe.

Nominations are now being sought - self-nominations and nominations of previous Working Group members are permitted. We especially encourage established members of the community to consider whom they might wish to nominate, paying particular attention to under-represented groups. There is no formal deadline, with nominations being considered as they are received, but the trustees will begin inviting new members from the middle of April.
