Msc City Planning and Design - Thesis Questionnaire
Belfast has experienced significant urban transformations over the past decade which has been intertwined with various social conflictions. Urban planning and planning policy to look towards creating a knowledgable, cultural and resilient city. Undoubtedly, strolling through Belfast today there is a large volume of cranes powering the skyline particularly to the North of the city. Predominantly these cranes are accelerating the development of the new modern Ulster University Campus in the Cathedral Quarter. Belfast alone has 6 higher educational institutions accumulating to 31,614 enrolments in 2017/2018 or 56% of total enrolments in Northern Ireland, this figure is due to exceed over 50,000 enrolments in Belfast due to campus expansions and growth of international students. (HESA,2020). Current development within the city sees a continuous preparation for a growing student population with a shift from HMO's to high rise, high density and gated purpose built student accommodation.
As part of my thesis module within my masters degree of city planning and design at Queen's University Belfast the following research question has been asked:
"The modern right to the city, studentification in a post conflict North Belfast and it's contestations."
Your contribution will help massively with this research study in assessing the impacts of university led regeneration and studentification upon a deprived inner city location and ultimately highlight the varying rights to the city.
