Abstract: This research uses micro data to estimate the elasticity of industrial electricity demand to price in the Mekong River Delta, Vietnam. We use econometric models based on the Cobb-Douglass cost function. The results show that industrial electricity is not elasticity to price, except for agriculture and manufacturing. The price elasticity of demand for electricity across all firms is approximately -0.58, which implies that a 1% increase in electricity prices will lead to a 0.58% decrease in electricity demand across firms. The result shows that capital is a complement for electricity, while labor is a substitution for electricity. We do not find any evidence of the substitution of other energy (gas and oil) for electricity because the absolute value of cross-price coefficients is small.

Tóm tắt: Nghiên cứu này sử dụng dữ liệu vi mô để ước tính độ co giãn của nhu cầu điện công nghiệp theo giá ở Đồng bằng sông Cửu Long, Việt Nam. Chúng tôi sử dụng các mô hình kinh tế lượng dựa trên hàm chi phí Cobb-Douglass. Kết quả cho thấy điện công nghiệp không co giãn theo giá, ngoại trừ ngành nông nghiệp và sản xuất. Độ co giãn theo giá của nhu cầu điện đối với tất cả các công ty là xấp xỉ -0,58, điều này có nghĩa là giá điện tăng 1% sẽ dẫn đến nhu cầu điện giữa các công ty giảm 0,58%. Kết quả cũng cho thấy vốn là nguồn bổ sung cho điện, trong khi lao động là nguồn thay thế cho điện. Chúng tôi không tìm thấy bằng chứng nào về việc thay thế năng lượng khác (xăng và dầu) cho điện do giá trị tuyệt đối của hệ số giá chéo nhỏ và không có ý nghĩa thống kê.
