Respiratory Therapy Program Application
This application is for the Mott Respiratory Therapy Program
Please note: All pre-requisites must be completed prior to submitting the application. 
Incomplete applications will not be considered.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that their file is up-to-date at all times with regard to address, telephone numbers and transcripts from high school and other colleges and/or universities attended.

Technical standards for the respiratory therapy program:
For successful completion of the program, the student must be capable of meeting the following
technical standards required in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical setting.

1. Strength:
Requires ability to frequently push/pull and lift objects up to 50 lbs. as in transferring patients.

2. Manual Dexterity:
Requires ability to constantly perform moderately difficult manipulative skills such as positioning a patient, applying electrodes, manipulating dials, knobs or equipment and to frequently perform difficult manipulative skills such as airway care.

3. Repetitive Tasks:
Requires ability to perform repetitive tasks such as manipulating equipment, writing, computer entry, and memory.

4. Coordination:
Requires constant performance of gross body coordination such as walking, standing, bending, speech; ability to constantly perform tasks which require eye-hand coordination such as measurements, use of equipment, passive exercises; and ability to frequently perform tasks which require arm-hand steadiness as in taking pulses and application of certain treatments and procedures.  

5. Mobility:
In the classroom or clinical area, the student is constantly required to sit or stand for prolonged periods. In the laboratory and/or clinic the student may be required to remain in uncomfortable positions such as bending over beds or chairs.

6. Visual Acuity/Discrimination:
Constantly requires viewing objects closely as in reading instrument dials, labels, or measuring devices.  Must be able to determine changes in patient’s physiologic status through visual observation of changes in patient’s coloring or reaction to treatment, and be able to make an assessment of patient status and functional abilities.  Must be able to discriminate colors as in colors of electrical wires, or reading warning lights.

7. Hearing:
Must be able to distinguish various sounds as in oral communications, auditory alarms, blood pressure monitoring, or breath sounds and assessment of patient status.

8. Concentration:
Must be able to concentrate on moderate to fine detail despite constant interruption.

9. Attention Span:
Must be able to attend to tasks/functions for 45-60 minutes at a time.  

10. Memory:
Requires ability to constantly remember various types of data, multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others over long periods of time.

11. Environmental and Working Conditions:
Frequently exposed to blood, body tissues or fluids; sharps, such as needles, scissors, and instruments; high or low temperatures; latex, high humidity; radiation as in computer monitors.  May be exposed to other hazardous human or industrial waste materials or chemicals.
 
12. Must be able to work independently (e.g. read physician orders, interpret the meaning of orders, medication labels) in their ability to read written direction, orders, and interpretation of those written objectives. Must display the ability to provide written documentation legibly and, accurately. Must be able to utilize computerized documentation accurately and adhere with clinical policy to utilize EMR and any other computerized device required
