Course Interest Form  
The Learning Cohort invites young curious learners who love to read, ask questions, and look for answers to join a cohort of like-minded peers and mentors. We offer virtual classes in Russian and English languages. Please fill out the interest form and we'll send you the confirmation letter with all details. While our website is under construction, please find more information about our classes, consultations and free events below. Classes start in October, 2021. Please, select the classes you are interested in to receive a zoom link for the class.

Our teachers:

Natalia Black graduated from the State Pedagogical University in Moscow and the New School in New York. She has been working as a teacher, translator and a screenwriter for the United Nations, MSF (Doctors Without Borders), universities, and local nonprofits. Currently, Natalia is teaching Russian Language and Culture for Middlebury College, Princeton Adult School, UMASS/OLLI, and The Learning Cohort. Native Russian speaker, fluent in English.

Jolie Black, a student at Brandeis University, has been working as a ELA teacher, writing tutor, coach, interpreter, researcher and teaching assistant for four years. Former homeschooler and early HS graduate, now she is a student at Brandeis University, conducting research and taking graduate level classes. Native English speaker, fluent in Russian.

Dina Black has been working as a reading specialist, teacher assitant and curriculum developer. Сurrently, she is teaching World Literature Club. She is an avid reader and a talented writer. Native English speaker, fluent in Russian.

Found in Translation (age 9-12 years). This class is designed for learners, who can read in Russian and English. We discuss the art and science aspects of translation, compare translations of familiar books, and find translators’ mistakes. We’ll find out how a correct translation can ruin the meaning, while the wrong translation clarifies it. The class is taught in Russian Language. The class meets once a week. No prerequisites.  Instructor - Natalia Black.
English Conversation Club for children (ages 6-10). Time to be announced later
World Literature Club (age 6-10) for English Learners. Reading is not an assignment, it is not a class, and it is not a chore. Reading is your way of exploring the world. Let's read together and challenge your teacher and peers by asking peculiar questions.  Class meets once a week. Instructor - Dina Black
Russian Club (FREE for all students enrolled at least in one class). Meet your peers to learn more about Russia and Russian language. We'll discuss modern Russian culture, current events and curious facts about Russian language. Club meets once a month. Free for The Learning Cohort students enrolled at least in one class. Russian for Beginners I (age 12-17 years). Did you know that 258 million people in the world speak Russian Language, and that Russian is one of six UN languages? Join our class to learn how to speak and read in Russian. It will make you a valuable candidate for study abroad program or employment by an international company. Most of all, it is just so much fun.  This course will fulfill language requirements for high school graduation (if you are a homeschooler or independent learner) and will boost your college application.  The class meets twice a week. Free homework help. Class size limited to 6 students. Instructor - Natalia Black.
