Zero Waste Ambassador Sign-Up (Fall 2022 - Spring 2023)
The Zero Waste Ambassador (ZWA) program is a vital part of Emory’s initiative to reduce and divert landfill waste. Emory’s 2025 Sustainability Vision sets the goal of diverting 95% of our waste from municipal landfills. In 2021, President Fenves additionally committed to reducing unnecessary single-use plastics by 2026. Emory is showing national leadership in protecting our neighborhoods from the negative social, economic, and environmental impacts of landfills. We owe it to our surrounding communities and future generations to lead the way to a post-landfill future.
As a Zero Waste Ambassador, you serve as a peer-to-peer educator on proper waste management and reduction. This year, ZWAs will use a hybrid of virtual and in-person methods to conduct outreach and engage with the community. You will promote a zero waste lifestyle and empower students, faculty, and staff with the knowledge and resources to actualize Emory’s Sustainability Vision and plastic reduction goals. ZWAs will foster a community that recognizes the value of waste management and its intersections with environmental justice, resource conservation, climate change, and a regenerative economy. You will gain the tools and leadership skills to educate others and the agency to share feedback on how to improve Emory’s systems, communication, and culture to achieve these goals.
