We Don't Want Remote Online Notary in Louisiana
In 2019, Notariat Acadien surveyed Louisiana notaries. 89.5% of Louisiana notaries were opposed to Remote Online Notary (RON) legislation being passed in Louisiana. We are concerned about many aspects of HB 122 and HB 274, which are being considered in the House during the 2020 Legislative Session.

Documents notarized in person, with pen and ink provide such strong evidentiary value and allow notaries to act as a first line of defense against fraud, duress, undue influence, forgery, fake identification and many other crimes. Instituting RON in Louisiana would overwhelm our already strained justice system with more cases involving notarial acts executed over the internet.

In addition to this, all the RON platforms available to facilitate RON transactions place the liability completely on the individual notary utilizing the services. This liability is huge, especially considering all the cyber attacks being fought currently by the State of Louisiana. We do not want to be victim to cyber attacks, data corruption and hackers!

Furthermore, with the vast powers granted to Louisiana notaries, we strive to keep our clients' personal data private and confidential. These RON platforms and identity proofing platforms are not exempt from data mining and commercialization of information. Our clients don't want their data and personally identifiable information being sold to sales people and robo-callers!

WE OPPOSE HB 122 AND HB 274!
