We are excited that you are interested in finding out more about our AWESOME band program.  Filling out this form will allow your child the opportunity to EXPLORE UP CLOSE BEFORE FILLING OUT THE REGISTRATION FORM (in a way comfortable for you!)        all basic start-up information can be found on our website: https://sites.google.com/a/wcusd200.org/district-200-elementary-band/join-band-welcome

BASIC INFO:
---Teachers: Mrs. Schweihs dschweihs@wcusd200.org (MEES, DE, WW, GW, OLS)
and Mrs. Storer astorer@wcusd200.org (PWE and CMS)
---a safe, welcoming place, where we explore music through our instruments, hands-on experiences, games, and performances.
---no prior knowledge necessary!  We meet students where they are, building their individual skills, teamwork skills, performance skills, and self-confidence
-- we have adjusted the course flow based on the needs of virtual learning, and will work closely with the teachers to create a low stress experience for the kids
---An AMAZING BONUS of participating in band is our efforts to develop life skills such as time management, commitment, dedication, responsibility to a team, perseverance, etc.
---We want everyone with an interest to be able to participate.  Please don't let cost stop you from letting your child try out the instruments.  Send us a quick email, or have your child talk to us, we would like to help troubleshoot options for you!

new AWESOME instrument options offered through band:
FLUTE          CLARINET         TRUMPET        TROMBONE        PERCUSSION (snare drum & bells)
(if your child is interested in Saxophone, they should start on Clarinet, and discuss a switch for next year)

There is a place for EVERYONE in band
--- do you LOVE music?  Come explore music with us! YAY!

--- not sure you love music (you haven't really loved music class).
Music class is mostly SINGING- playing an instrument is DIFFERENT- YOU SHOULD TRY IT!!

--- you liked Orchestra last year, but are also curious about other instruments?
AWESOME- this is the ONLY YEAR that you CAN do both Band & Orchestra

-- you DIDN'T LOVE Orchestra?
MAYBE you didn't find the RIGHT INSTRUMENT yet??  Instruments are like sports!   Not enjoying Basketball
doesn't mean you won't be very successful with Soccer or Tennis!  TRY A DIFFERENT TYPE OF INSTRUMENT!

-- PARENTS, are you hesitant to give them the opportunity because they quit or didn't enjoy the other music experiences they already tried?  As parents ourselves, we understand your thought process, and know it can be frustrating, but it IS TRUE:  every instrument is different (see the sports analogy above). PLEASE CONSIDER GIVING YOUR CHILD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE IT A TRY.   ****Many, MANY parents have felt this way, then were so very surprised that their child found something that they loved.

5th Grade is a great time to explore an instrument, and we hope you will plan to register your child for band!
Whether SLIGHTLY INTERESTED, or READY TO SIGN-UP,  please fill out this interest survey so we can schedule a meeting with your child to begin exploring the instruments. The registration can come in later!
