What would being a peer therapist entail?
- Co-leading one to two IPT therapy groups of ~6-8 students for the semester (new therapists may also observe groups, depending on their comfort level)
- Building up the future of HUGPT (ex: discussing strategy, leading one-off workshops for residential houses, etc.)
- 6 hours/week (2-3 hours of therapy, 1 hour of CAMHS supervision, 1-2 hour strategy/other)
- Helping us pub for new group members (sending emails over house lists, hanging up flyers, tabling at events, etc.)
What will the interview process entail?
After this initial form, we will have 1-2 interviews to better understand your interest and availability for HUGPT as well as your style of emotional support.
What else should I know?
If you are selected, you will need to move in to campus early for two days of in-person CAMHS-wide training, likely in the week before classes start. All Harvard students providing some amount of peer mental health support (ie: us and the other peer counseling groups) are required to attend this training. Additionally, during the first two weeks of school, we will be scheduling a few hours of training in peer counseling techniques and interpersonal psychotherapy strategies + role plays so be prepared for that!
