At our virtual Connected event, we will have two breakout rooms where students and mentors will participate in fun activities, share stories and network. As "networking" is new to many students, we often find it challenging to engage the students in the conversation. To help bridge this gap, the Connected Committee would like to appoint one mentor per breakout room to act as the facilitator to help guide the conversation and encourage student participation. The breakout room facilitator will receive some additional information about the breakout rooms and have the opportunity to join a practice session prior to the event.

Every year at CONNECTED, we realize that the young women attending the event have already begun to leave an impact on our community and have inspirational stories to share as well.

In the Fall, the Connected Committee announced the Mary Davies Empowerment Scholarship and were overwhelmed with our submissions. We wanted to find a way to continue recognizing and honouring the amazing young women in our community, so we are excited to announce the CONNECTED EMPOWERMENT AWARD.

We invite students to nominate a peer (in grades 10 - 12) who empowers and supports others in the community through their actions. As we know, it does not have to be the loudest or most popular people who make the most significant impact in our lives. Someone deserving of the CONNECTED EMPOWERMENT AWARD may possess the following qualities:
• Demonstrates compassion and support for those around them
• Has a positive outlook on life and strives to lift up those around them
• Leads by example
• Creates an inclusive culture

The Award recipient will receive a monetary prize and be recognized at CONNECTED on April 28th.
