Position Title: Intermediate Traffic Control Person

Reports to: Traffic Coordinator

Term: July 10th to July 14th, 2024

Job Summary:
Part of the Traffic team, the Intermediate Traffic Control Person provides
experience and expertise, specifically supporting the successful implementation
of the event traffic management master plan at the Winnipeg Folk Festival
(WFF). Their primary responsibilities will pertain to traffic control during
pre-defined busy periods of traffic flow (ie. Ingress and Egress).

Specific Areas of Responsibility:

Pre-Festival
  • Successful complete the following training modules administered by the WFF: Traffic Control Safety (TCS), Advanced Traffic Principles (ATP)

Festival Operations
  • Primary Duty: deploy as assigned to critical multi-direction intersections to control traffic in line with the event traffic management plan.
  • While on shift at the Festival, act as an experienced professional in the movement of traffic at the Festival during critical traffic flow periods.
While tasks vary by day and shift, a non-exclusive list of duties includes:
  • Support other personnel upon request in working safely.
  • Respond to unanticipated traffic congestion or traffic flow choke points as dispatched by the on-duty traffic coordinator.
  • Respond to traffic related incidents and provide scene support.
  • Support during incidents as assigned.

Qualifications & Assets
  • Experience directing traffic or implementing a traffic management plan (ie. traffic management in construction, events, security or emergency services)
  • Creative and resourceful problem solver
  • Strong communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Ability to work calmly and politely under pressure in a busy traffic environment
  • Previous experience working as an incident responder in events, security or emergency services
  • Valid Manitoba driver’s license
  • Flag person certificate is an asset

Work Schedule:
You will be required to complete the mandatory online component of the training
modules noted above before May 31, 2024.
At the festival the hours of work will be on an established schedule between
Wednesday July 10th and Sunday July 14th
.
