This initial dive into photography will not only teach you how to use your own camera, but how to understand light, see details, color, form, pattern, and utilize compositional and technical elements to create more intriguing and successful photographs. You will learn aperture, shutter speed, ISO, the creative purposes of focal lengths, and how to photograph in Aperture Priority, Shutter Speed Priority and Manual Mode.

About Laurie Schorr:
Laurie Schorr grew up along Long Island Sound surrounded by car parts and cuckoo clocks. Her father was an avid photographer and shared his love of fixing cameras and spending hours in the darkroom. She has been teaching photography through outreach and public school systems since 2003, and currently lives in Charlotte, North Carolina. She works as Education Director at The Light Factory and is a Teaching Artist with Studio 345, and has been teaching for Art Institute Charlotte since 2015. Laurie has a BA in Visual Arts and Art History from Roger Williams University and an MA in Art and Art Education from Columbia University Teachers College. She has 16 years of teaching experience in both historical processes and contemporary practices in photography.

Laurie has received numerous grants and awards for her photographic work and teaching, including a 2016 North Carolina Arts Council Residency for Holga and medium format photography, the 2014 North Carolina Regional Artist Project Grant, finalist in 2014 PhotoLucida Critical Mass 200, the 2013 North Carolina Arts and Science Council Award, and Best Emerging Artist in Photography GLAAD OutAuction in NYC in 2009. Laurie's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including the 2016 Chiang Mai Photography Festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
