Waco Family Medicine (various shifts)
Waco Family Medicine’s mission is to increase access to, and availability of high-quality comprehensive primary and preventative health care for the vulnerable of the Heart of Texas and to provide an excellent educational, training, and research environment in the medical, dental, and behavioral health fields. As AED clinic volunteers, we assist WFM staff in checking in patients, shadowing physicians, and helping front desk staff in any way we can, a great opportunity to delve deep into the realm of clinical volunteerism!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE APPLICATION:

Volunteers will be required to complete this application and provide their weekly availability, as well as attend a mandatory in-person orientation during the week of January 23rd-27th and complete various onboarding steps in order to volunteer. Due to the high level of interest for volunteering with WFM, spots cannot be guaranteed. Notifications of volunteer acceptance will be sent out on Sunday, January 22nd. The first day of volunteering with WFM will be January 30th.
VA Blind Rehabilitation Center (Saturdays 9:00 am - 10:00 am)

The Waco VA Rehabilitation Center seeks to provide intensive interdisciplinary rehabilitation to Veterans with visual impairment in a VA medical facility support system.

Veterans receive help for their emotional and behavioral adjustments to blindness through individual counseling sessions and group therapy meetings. As volunteers, we visit the Veterans and socialize with them through recreational activities. The contributions volunteers make can have a direct impact on the quality of treatment that is provided to the Veterans. Since many Veterans do not have visitors, sharing time with them adds joy and support to their experience at the center.

**Notes: ALL volunteers must be fully vaccinated to volunteer at the Blind Rehab center. Those accepted to volunteer will need to fill out volunteer forms for the Volunteer Services Department.

Baylor Scott & White - Faith Community Caregivers (various shifts available, at least one hour per week)

If you are looking for an impactful way to interact with patients and the Baylor Scott & White healthcare system, Faith Community Health is the place for you. As a FCH volunteer, you will be paired with a patient who is socially isolated and in need of companionship. You stay with your patient throughout the year, visiting with them for one hour a week, helping them navigate health resources in the community, and looking for ways to improve their quality of life.

Here is a brochure where you can find more information about this opportunity.

**Notes: Training will be required for all volunteers.

Loaves of Love at Earle Hall (Fridays, dates TBD)

Are you a skilled sandwich maker? If so, join us for this semester's Loaves of Love! We meet
bi-weekly on Fridays @ 5PM in the Earle classroom. Volunteers work together in an assembly
line fashion (Team PB, Jelly, and Baggy) to create as many PB&U sandwiches as possible in
under ONE HOUR! Proceeds go straight to Shepherd's Heart, where our Loaves of Love are
distributed to the hungry hearts of Waco, TX (e.g. homeless shelters, food pantries, nursing
homes, etc.).

Interested in weekly service? We ask that you serve for two hours bi-weekly from 4:30-6:30PM
on the dates listed in the flyer. This entails 30 mins set-up + 1 hour of making sandwiches +
30 mins of tear-down. [These two-hour commitments help us compensate for the weeks that
we don't hold an event.]

Shepherd’s Heart (Most weekdays, 10:00 AM or 3:00 PM)

Shepherd’s Heart is a nonprofit organization focused on ending hunger and helping people find ways to escape the grip of poverty. We are a mobile food pantry focused on feeding people and demonstrating to them the love of God. “Shepherd on the Move” partners with churches around the Waco area to set up several different distribution locations each week. We load the truck with canned goods, boxed and staple items, meats, drinks, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Our truck transports enough food to feed 225 families at each location. AED volunteers have the chance to help the pantry with distribution, packing carts, and loading cars with needed groceries.

Salvation Army Thrift Store (Saturdays 9:30 -11:30 AM)

Salvation Army’s mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. The SA Thrift store sells donated items which provide the funds to support local programs and services. Volunteers assist by helping to sort & hang clothing, assist customers, clean & arrange products, unload donations.

Mission Waco Children's Program (Mondays or Thursdays 3:00-5:30 PM)

Mission Waco’s mission is to provide Christian-based, holistic, relationship-based programs that empower the poor and marginalized. They work to mobilize middle-class Americans to become more compassionately involved among the poor. Specifically, Mission Waco After School Program is a rewarding service opportunity in which AED members will get to assist with fun and educational activities for Waco ISD students. As a volunteer, you will be able to foster meaningful relationships with these students and make a positive impact on their lives! The tasks include helping the students with their homework and assisting in enrichment activities that enhance their talents, such as fine arts and STEM classes.

Bears for Education (TBD, various shifts available)

Bears for Education is a tutoring organization partnered with schools in the Waco ISD, ranging from elementary to high schools. Our mission is to provide mentorship to Waco students so that they may realize their full potential. BFE events are a weekly, in-person commitment where you will be interacting with students in a classroom, group, or one-on-one setting. This opportunity is extremely valuable to the students but also to the volunteers themselves and provides a unique platform of growth for all parties involved!
