The Asian American High School Conference is one of the biggest annual AASA events. This conference brings together high school students from around Utah for a day of educational and cultural workshops and provides them with college resources and connections. The conference will be held on February 24th from 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM.
This year's theme is
"Explor-ASIAN". The main goals of this conference are to encourage Asian American students to explore their own path during college despite expectations set on them and to understand that college is much more than just classes and grades.By joining the High School Conference you will be me helping different aspects the conference. We will meet regularly throughout November-February outside of AASA meetings.
There are two committees available: workshop committee and outreach committee
Workshop Committee
-Contact different departments across campus
-Maintain communication with workshop presenter
-Brainstorm workshop ideas (campus resources, advising and social justice)
Outreach
-To contact high schoolers and previous attendees
-To coordinate and do community outreach with local organizations
-Visit High Schools to promote the conference (more information will be given as we get closer to the conference)
Joining the team is a great opportunity for those who are interested in becoming more involved in AASA and taking on a leadership role. These positions will allow you to develop many professional and organizational skills. Please keep in mind that these positions will require time and work outside of regular AASA meetings. You do not need to have attended High School Conference to apply. There are 5 positions available for each committee, and there will be more opportunities in the future to help out with High School Conference so please keep an eye out for that.
